Identity

Touchscreens, Projection, Audio

Created at Bluecadet. Designed by Kim Gim and Andy Moliski.

On display in the MIT Museum, Identity focuses on the Black experience at MIT. Three individual touch stations, each with a handset speaker, include a series of playlists, information about the collection, and an archive of clips. A projection above the touch stations showcases image montages and statements about the significance of the collection.

During guided tours, docents can switch the application into “Docent Mode” which will alter some features of the app to aid in explaining the collection to a group. An overhead speaker provides ambient audio for visitors and plays the selected audio clips during Docent tours.

Built in Cinder and supported by Contentful.

A single application runs for all 3 touch stations and the projection.

Contextual images are revealed once a playlist is selected and audio controls on screen allow visitors to pause, play, and skip to different clips.

In the archive, visitors can filter by different topics or time periods to explore all of the audio clips.
